Dearest Goddaughter (LTR-18)

Dearest Goddaughter,

Today is the Memorial of Saint Dominic, Priest.

The Responsorial Psalm - "Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned." - is a great reminder that we are sinners in need of a Savior. Sin is something we want to talk about because we want to believe that doing good and being kind to others are all we need. However, nothing is farther from the Truth. The Truth is beautiful said in the Jesus Prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinful one." It is the prayer of the repentant tax collector (Luke 18:13).

In the first reading, from the Book of Numbers, we see how quickly Aaron and Miriam repented of their wicked ways when they questioned God, making themselves wiser than God just as Adam & Eve. It is the same with us, God gives us the gift of understanding, knowledge, and reason, so when we go astray from the path that God desires of us, then we must repent and atone for our sinfulness. When we do, we will find that our Lord is a merciful God.

Therefore, dearest goddaughter, while admitting you are wrong and saying "sorry" can be hard sometimes, it is important to set aside pride and made amends with those we have wronged and, most especially, with our Father in heaven.

Love,

Bỏ Phúc

P.S. These are the readings for the day: Nm 12:1-13 and Mt 14:22-36.
